Overview

Director, MLS Properties & Big Events is responsible for managing the process and timelines through which MLS Big Events and new league platforms are developed.

Responsibilities

  • Spearhead the integrated planning of MLS Big Events (e.g., MLS All-Star, MLS Rivalry Week, MLS Decision Day, etc.), leading key organization stakeholders through goal-setting, as well as project and timeline management
  • Oversee day-to-day internal communications and reporting related to MLS Big Events development
  • Author planning and summary documents/presentations to support external sales conversations and internal development discussions
  • Utilize internal and external market research resources to inform internal constituents and decision-making for MLS Big Events
  • Maintain understanding of industry-leading Big Event activations across other sports and entertainment properties, identifying key learnings relevant for MLS
  • Innovate and help create new long-term Big Event opportunities for MLS
  • Integrate core internal stakeholders across MLS and SUM alongside external stakeholders to facilitate department-specific plans for each Big Event
  • Manage budget development and quarterly reviews for MLS Big Events
  • Liaise with commercial sales team to develop partnership assets and go-to-market strategies for corporate and media partners
  • Manage hiring and onboarding process by interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training employees
  • Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and managing the Performance Management process:
    • Plan, monitor, and review performance;
    • Coach and counsel employees;
  • Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce Company policies
  • Develop personal growth opportunities for employees

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree; MBA Preferred
  • 8-10+ years of experience in business strategy, sponsorship and/or marketing

  • Understanding of visual design principles and applying them to presentation materials
  • Outstanding PowerPoint skills and the ability to craft different types of presentation narratives
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and Consumer Research Tools

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of the Spanish Language (business proficiency)
  • Knowledge of the sport of soccer
  • Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
