This position within the International Events department is responsible for project management related to MLS/SUM events (such as FMF US Tour, Liga MX properties, and CONCACAF Gold Cup).  Under the supervision of the Senior Manager of International Events, the position is also directly accountable for the participating international team operations. The ideal canddiate will be extremely detail oriented, have the ability to work autonomously, and be a positive team player. 


Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the pre-planning resource for the Mexican National Team and their respective opponents for the annual FMF US Tour across the United States 
  • In addition to on-site logistics, manage the RFP process, execution of contracts, and payment for international team travel (hotels, flights, and ground transportation)
  • Act as a liaison between team representatives & SUM internal stakeholders
  • Manage remote consultants & relationships with hotels, facilities, and travel providers
  • Manage finances and reconciliation of team expenses before, during, and after their visit
  • Coordinate the match application process and payment schedules
  • Serve as a project manager and execution lead for the annual Campeon de Campeones match and other potential Liga MX/SUM events
  • Provide administrative support for the biannual CONCACAF Gold Cup planning cycle
  • Assist with the procurement and supervision of local liaisons and staff
  • Develop mechanisms for efficient team information management & distribution
  • Support other tasks as directed by the Senior Manager of International Events

Additional Responsibilities

  • Identify revenue opportunities and cost saving initiatives related to international events
  • Provide support to MLS Marquee Events (All Star and/or Cup)
  • Determine best practices and procedures through professional growth opportunities


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management, Business or a related field
  • 2-4 years of experience working within a sports entity (league, team, federation) or agency

Required Skills

  • Event management, promotion, and budget experience
  • Understanding of the operational expectations & priorities of soccer federations and teams
  • Superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail
  • Deadline oriented and displaying sound judgement and decision making
  • A team player with and the ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal)
  • Positive attitude against business challenges and multi-cultural perspective
  • Ability to deliver both verbal and written presentations and briefings, both internal and external key stakeholders
  • Ability to multi-task and work remotely, autonomously, and efficiently
  • High level of commitment to quality work, organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of the sport of soccer
  • Experience in the sports industry is preferred
  • Knowledge of the Spanish Language (business proficiency)
