Major League Soccer seeks a dynamic professional with a proven track record of success in communications. Work experience in the areas of brand/consumer communications and sponsorship marketing, as well as significant experience in sports and/or entertainment is strongly preferred. The individual selected for this opportunity will have a deep understanding of all types of editorial media, including a strong grasp of the digital and social media landscape. Experience and significant relationships with editorial decision makers in the areas of business and lifestyle media are critical to this role.  This person who fills this role will possess an entrepreneurial spirit, acumen in executive communications and the ability to make decisions and executive plans in settings comparable to the fast-paced world of professional sports. The position is based in New York, NY.


  • Develop and manage communications strategy for MLS/SUM in the areas of business, lifestyle/entertainment and philanthropy. 
  • Serve as the stakeholder to manage communications for 50+ corporate partners as it pertains to their activation around MLS/SUM.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, MLS clubs and external partners to drive storytelling to achieve desired program outcomes.
  • Manage communications for select executives through interviews, high-impact media opportunities, and events; prepare executives to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Manage communications strategy for organization’s digital group, marketing department and media/broadcast team.
  • Serve as the organization’s stakeholder for conferences.
  • Oversee communications for various marketing and sponsorship initiatives around MLS’ marquee events (ex: MLS All-Star Game presented by Target, MLS Cup etc.)
  • Work closely with MLS media rights partners to manage communications for broadcasting announcements, ratings information and news.
  • Provide communications support for SUM partners such as U.S. Soccer, Mexican National Team, CONCACAF Gold Cup and CONCACAF Champions League.
  • Successfully manage complex, fast-moving and unexpected communications opportunities, including select crisis situations.
  • Manage hiring and onboarding process by interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training employees
  • Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and managing the Performance Management process:
    • Plan, monitor, and review performance;
    • Coach and counsel employees;
    • Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce Company policies
  • Develop personal growth opportunities for employees
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 12+ years of experience in Communications
  • Ability to develop and execute highly effective communications, public relations, and partner/stakeholder relations strategies in a complex environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally
  • Positive, engaging personality (in order to gain the respect of a variety of influential stakeholders).
