The Properties and Events department manages Soccer United Marketing (“SUM”) Property partnerships (U.S. Soccer, Federacion Mexicana de Futbol, CONCACAF, Liga MX and others) and oversees the development, planning and execution of Major League Soccer (“MLS”) and SUM events and platforms in North America each year, including marquee events like MLS All-Star, CONCACAF Gold Cup, MLS Cup, the Mexican National Team U.S. Tour, MLS Rivalry Week, MLS Decision Day, and U.S. Soccer Federation programming. The group also spearheads organization-wide initiatives, including hospitality/B2B programming, press/media events, department/executive meetings, competition events and the development of new platforms / partnerships for the enterprise.


  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with USSF and develop processes to streamline and enhance communication flow between SUM and USSF, and internally within SUM
  • Manage the development and maximization of the U.S. Soccer Federation’s commercial business including television, sponsorship, consumer products, and digital
  • Identify and support the development of new commercial opportunities, inclusive of the development of new sponsor platforms and packages
  • Support the creation and execution of annual business plans to drive U.S. Soccer development objectives, while supporting and generating value for the property
  • Serve as a consulting resource, equipped to provide business solutions based on property knowledge and USSF objectives for all internal departments
  • Regularly collaborate with other SUM business units and departments
  • Work with broadcast partners to create and capitalize on media opportunities
  • Play a role in the sourcing, preparing and distribution of relevant, real-time market intelligence and planning resources to senior management and key stakeholders and report on key success metrics
  • Maintain informational and positioning documents, as well as sales materials
  • Share P&L responsibility to net positive growth
  • Manage hiring and onboarding process by interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training employees
  • Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and managing the Performance Management process:
    • Plan, monitor, and review performance
    • Coach and counsel employees;
    • Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce Company policies
  • Develop personal growth opportunities for employees

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree (MBA/MS preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in brand management, relationship management and business experience
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Solid understanding of the global soccer landscape (international industry experience a plus)
  • Relationships in the sport, entertainment and media industries
  • Commitment to building positive team environments and proven experience managing, mentoring and growing staff
  • Marketing, sponsorships, sales, promotional, media and international business experience
  • Experience developing commercial platforms and sponsorships packages
  • Superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
  • Tireless work ethic and commitment to excellence
  • Outstanding PowerPoint presentation development skills and a strong understanding of visual design principles
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Ability to travel extensively and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays 

Desired Skills

  • Fluent knowledge of a foreign language (business proficiency)
  • Knowledge of the sport of soccer
