  • Overview

We are looking for a killer junior or mid-level product designer with some legit chops, a bit of real world experience and a serious love for soccer. You will join our small internal team on a full-time freelance basis to help us as we continue a complete, piece-by-piece redesign all of our digital experiences.

At MLS we work with extremely passionate, talented, and self-motivating individuals who are eager to bring our fans together through great soccer experiences both on and off the pitch. We take a highly collaborative approach to user experience design, and are involved in all phases of a project —from research and strategy to workshops, testing and iterative UX and UI design—to ensure we’re reaching our goals through simple and effective design solutions.

As the Contract Product Designer, you will take ownership of assigned features and projects, working closely with the internal design team through day-to-day challenges and short-burst design sprints. We’re looking to utilize your full range of UX, organization, system thinking, and product design skills to contribute to a variety of exciting projects in the upcoming year. And as we reimagine our digital experiences from the ground up, your product design knowledge and excitement to re-think the user experience in a sports-specific environment is essential.

    At MLS, you will:

    • Contribute directly to assigned projects through breakout creative sessions, research, concept boards, wireframes, flows, visual design, and hand off
    • Partner with the design team as we continue to expand, organize, and simplify our components, patterns and shared libraries
    • Take ownership of building-up and maintaining our design system through master libraries and our style guide
    • Express ideas and solutions through sketches, quick prototypes, and/or diagrams
    • Present ideas to the Design Director, Product Designer, and other stakeholders
    • Be responsible for your weekly assignments through self-organization, communication, and time management
    • Participate in daily standup meetings and impromptu collaborative discussions

    We’re looking for candidates that:

    • Have 1-5 years of product experience under your belt
    • Are highly organized
    • Have a polished portfolio showcasing digital products
    • Work iteratively and can think from a user's perspective
    • Are self-motivated and can learn new skills quickly
    • Are an excellent communicator
    • Have experience working with Sketch, Zeplin, Principle, Invision, and Adobe CC.
    • Have cross-platform experience, as well as prototyping experience
    • Have experience designing for systems and/or have followed and maintained a strict style guide

This position will be a full-time freelance contract for the rest of 2018, and will either be a mix of on-site and remote work (for local NYC candidates) or fully remote work (for strong candidates from elsewhere).
