  • Overview

    The Director, Partnership Marketing leads a team responsible for managing and executing all activities associated with assigned partnership accounts including the creation, ideation, development and execution of partner initiatives.  The Director provides strategic oversight of partners across MLS/National teams using expert knowledge of industry relevant topics and understanding of the sales/marketing objectives of each client in the portfolio.


    • Develop, maximize and manage relationships at the Director level of partner accounts
    • Identify insights, create a vision, and articulate a strategy on how to approach each partner’s business within his/her portfolio and how to grow that business
    • Create compelling pitches for current marketing partners that demonstrate how a MLS/National Teams partnership can meet/solve for a brand’s unique business objective
    • Oversee the preparation of sales presentations, deal memo/summaries, recaps and other materials needed to manage sponsorship activities
    • Lead renewals of current partner portfolio and upsell/grow existing partnerships by introducing new and/or enhanced programming
    • Participate in external prospect/partner calls and meetings
    • Manage the relationship with partnership marketing teams at the U.S. Soccer, Mexican National Team and CONCACAF
    • Serve as an asset to the Business Development and Property & Commercial Development departments on day to day partner proposals, implementation, maintenance, etc.
    • Establish metrics to measure partnership success and ensure delivery
    • Be fiscally responsible and ensure sponsor’s promotional activities are within budget
    • Thoroughly understand MLS and National Team assets and how to leverage assets in the execution and renewal of partner programs
    • Keep track of partner investments and contractual media spends and strategize effective ways to potentially grow revenue
    • Work with internal stakeholders to provide issue resolution for partners
    • Manage direct reports in day to day, performance planning, coaching/mentoring/growth, team morale etc.
    • Represent partner marketing on internal task forces
    • Effectively strategize potential client solutions by understanding advertising and marketing channels and new technologies
    • Act as a liaison within designated property within PM team
    • Lead special projects as needed

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • 8+ years of experience in strategic brand & partnership marketing
    • Fluent in Spanish (business proficiency)
    • Creative strategist with the ability to open doors
    • Demonstrated track record for concepting and/or upselling innovative sponsorships
    • Proven experience managing and motivating a team
    • Knowledge of sports and entertainment sponsorship, including promotions, events, media and contracts
    • Ability to develop and implement 18-month partner strategy
    • Experience in presenting to Senior Management Team
    • Strong understanding of marketplace on both a local and national level
    • Relationships with senior level marketing executives at agency and client level
    • Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays 
    • Superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail
    • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally
    • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
    • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills
    • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision

    Desired Skills

    • Experience in the sports sponsorship industry
    • Knowledge of the sport of soccer
