  • Overview

    This role is expected to be a key member of the enterprise’s new business efforts across Soccer United Marketing (SUM) properties: including, but not limited to Major League Soccer (MLS), U.S. Soccer Federation, Mexican Soccer Federation, CONCACAF, etc. In addition to securing new, strategic marketing partnership for SUM, this position will be responsible for collaborating with a team that impacts the business of MLS’ Clubs, media partners and other properties.  


    • Meet or exceed annual revenue goals for Soccer United Marketing and its properties, including, but not limited to the Mexican National Team, CONCACAF, Major League Soccer, and U.S. Soccer across a variety of platforms (sponsorship, digital, broadcast, etc.)
    • Take a team sales approach and collaborate with department counterparts to close new business and achieve collective goals
    • Develop deep, meaningful relationships with national decision makers at brands that lead to long-term partnerships
    • Build and deliver strategic sales presentations catered to senior-level executives at prospective clients and agencies
    • Negotiate sponsorship deals with support from management
    • Manage relationships with partner agencies in the support of SUM’s new business efforts
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to build annual sales plans in order to identify and capitalize on emerging sponsorship opportunities for SUM properties
    • Manage hiring and onboarding process by interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training employees
    • Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and managing the Performance Management process:
      • Plan, monitor, and review performance;
      • Coach and counsel employees;
      • Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce Company policies
    • Develop personal growth opportunities for employees
    • Develop a deep understanding of the domestic and international soccer landscape to aid in the sales process
    • Understand company dynamics and in-house capabilities to uncover integrated opportunities that also benefit other departments of the company
    • Support Business Development management in other business-related efforts
    • Additional responsibilities as assigned


    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • 6+ years of experience selling complex, integrated marketing rights and media platforms, preferably in the sports/entertainment industry
    • Proven track record of meeting/exceeding sales goals
    • Ability to take a client through the entire sales funnel, from lead generation to closing
    • Existing brand contacts at national level and agency relationships
    • Ability to navigate and collaborate with counterparts in other functional areas including Partnership Marketing, Property and Commercial Development, Integrated Media, Legal, etc.
    • Self-starter and team player with the ability to work against both aggressive individual and department sales goals
    • Strong business, presentation and negotiating skills
    • Excellent organization, project management skills and attention to detail
    • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally
    • Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving skills
    • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
    • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
    • Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
    • Spanish Language knowledge preferred
    • Knowledge of the sport of soccer
