  • Overview

    The Events department oversees the strategic development, planning and execution of numerous Major League Soccer & Soccer United Marketing events in the US and Canada each year. We manage MLS and SUM tent-pole events including the MLS All-Star Game, CONCACAF Gold Cup, MLS Cup, Campeones Cup, the Mexican National Team U.S. Tour and other Major League Soccer and enterprise events. We support cross-departmental initiatives including press announcements, department/executive meetings, competition events and strategic projects. 


    The Senior Director of Event Marketing-Live Promotions is responsible for managing event marketing & promotions, revenue generation and event business operations for all MLS/SUM events tied to sporting events in regional markets. In this role you will also be responsible for fostering and maintaining strong industry relations, both locally and nationally, to secure in market venues for event tours.


    • Work closely with the SVP Events to lead event business operations, maximize revenue across all MLS/SUM events, and manage diverse content and programming
    • Work with MLS teams, stadiums, and local host committees on event placement to maximize event revenue and relevance
    • Responsible for overall ticket sale revenue for all SUM/MLS events including Mexican National Team annual tour, Gold Cup, MLS All Star Game, MLS Cup, Campeones Cup and other assigned events
    • Build long-term event marketing plans and develop rapport with internal staff and stakeholders to drive execution
    • Work closely with internal departments (Marketing, Content/Digital, Media, Partners, PR/Communications, Ticketing etc.) to manage the overall sales & promotion plan for all events, and ensure goals and revenue targets are met/exceeded
    • Oversee team of six (6) full-time employees and multiple full-time agencies representing event management, ticketing, marketing and sales promotion
    • Manage SUM/MLS event content calendar, source event venues and talent, negotiate contracts and create budgets
    • Lead ideation and execution of event enhancements and marketing initiatives in conjunction with other key internal stakeholders
    • Maintain relationships with key industry contacts including agencies, venues, stadiums and ticketing companies
    • Create, monitor and adjust brand messaging of all properties
    • Manage the hiring and onboarding process by interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training employees
    • Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and managing the Performance Management process:
      • Plan, monitor, and review performance;
      • Coach and counsel employees;
      • Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce Company policies
      • Develop personal growth opportunities for employees
    • Additional responsibilities as assigned


    • Possess strategic and innovative mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to direct multiple team members
    • Experience developing cross-functional marketing & ticket sales plans for sporting events
    • Familiarity with the parameters of booking events, venue operations, and an understanding of the facility management industry
    • Experience in contract development, negotiation, and execution
    • Experience managing production and creative agencies
    • Strong executive presence with experience working directly with C-Level Executives
    • Excellent people skills, with an ability to interact effectively in a professional, diplomatic, and mature manner with internal and external clients at all levels
    • Ability to build new relationships, and nurture existing relationships, to create opportunities for current and future events
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use upmost discretion when privy to sensitive information
    • Resourceful, quick learner with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced, team environment

    • Knowledge of US Sports landscape and North American sporting venues
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point
    • Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays 

    Desired Skills

    • Spanish fluency is preferred
    • Knowledge of the sport of soccer
