MLS NEXT provides the best player development experience in North America. The Manager, Player Development will assist with various aspects of MLS NEXT competitions, including scheduling, discipline, game data, referees, governance, membership evaluation, and growth. 



Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee administrative process of reviewing existing MLS NEXT membership including report preparation and management of club evaluation process
  • Manage internal and external MLS NEXT membership expansion including but not limited to creation and collation of applications, applicant review process, new club onboarding, and supporting expansion strategies for each division
  • Manage MLS NEXT disciplinary process including collecting dues/fines from member clubs and on-field incident investigations in conjunction with the MLS Legal Department
  • Support MLS NEXT team with administrative execution of national events and MLS NEXT competitions including scheduling, discipline, game data, and referees.
  • Act as a staff liaison to MLS NEXT Working Groups and Committees
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of MLS NEXT Technical Standards, Competition Guidelines and Disciplinary Code
  • Manage hiring and onboarding process by interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training employees
  • Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and managing the Performance Management process
    • Plan, monitor, and review performance;
    • Coach and counsel employees;
    • Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce Company policies
  • Develop personal growth opportunities for employees


Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordination with other MLS/SUM departments supporting MLS NEXT
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.



Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of experience


Required Skills

  • Deep knowledge and interest in Major League Soccer and player development
  • High-level of commitment to a quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, collaborative team environment with a commitment to building positive team environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong leadership ability and presence
  • Ability to travel (20-30%) and work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays 


Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of the Spanish Language (business proficiency)
  • Knowledge of the sport of soccer
