The Manager, MLS NEXT Operations is responsible for performing duties related to MLS NEXT event Operations throughout the calendar year. MLS NEXT is a growing brand within Major League Soccer’s youth development space, and this individual will be responsible in overseeing tournament operations and facility management throughout several MLS NEXT events throughout the country.


  • Serve as Operations lead for all MLS NEXT affiliated events, including – but not limited to: MLS NEXT Fest, MLS NEXT Cup, MLS NEXT Flex, Generation adidas Cup, and any programming around MLS All Star Game and MLS Cup.
  • Serve as main point of contact between MLS League Office and host venue of each tournament site.
  • Event lead for credential creation and distribution, facilitating with the venue to designate access zones and affiliations.
  • League representative for crisis management and weather monitoring throughout the duration of each event.
  • Collaborate with other MLS departments on tournament schedule, site visits, on-site execution, and scopes of work.
  • Assist outside vendors in sourcing tournament staff, and establishing MLS first league best practices within the MLS NEXT landscape.
  • Plan and execute match presentation and trophy celebration elements in order to elevate the experience of participating and winning clubs.
  • Oversee MLS NEXT staff communication throughout being on-site at the events, providing clear and concise updates and best practices.
  • Create and distribute Event Guide for each MLS NEXT event, serving as an event handbook and information guide for all staff on site
  • Additional assistance at MLS All Star and MLS Cup
  • Travel up to 30%


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management, Sports Administration, Business Operations or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in events and/or operations (preferably within the sports industry).
  • Youth sports operations or tournament operations a plus.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills
  • Prepare dynamic and effective presentations
  • Track record of superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, team building, and interpersonal skills
  • High-level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, and Smartsheets
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task across multiple projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work remotely and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

Desired Skills

  • Experience in event planning and execution.
  • Knowledge of the sport of soccer.
  • Knowledge of scheduling operations and turf management.

Total Rewards

Starting Base Salary: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
