Overview

This position will primarily support Major League Soccer’s properties, events and match business teams and will be responsible for coordinating and managing Soccer United Marketing’s Leagues Cup initiative.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage all Leagues Cup matters for Soccer United Marketing, MLS and its clubs, including coordinating with all internal stakeholders across departments.
  • Draft and negotiate match business agreements, including agreements related to team participation, stadiums/venues, training facilities and travel/accommodation.
  • Support MLS on all MLS and MLS NEXT events, including MLS All-Star Game and MLS Cup.
  • Draft and negotiate vendor and services agreements related to match and ancillary event operations.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to business teams regarding commercial transactions and deal structuring.
  • Work cross-functionally to identify risks and provide practical and creative legal guidance.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform special projects and other assignments.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • 2+ years of experience at a leading law firm and/or corporate legal department
  • Bachelor’s Degree and JD
  • Admission to the NY State Bar

Required Skills

  • Outstanding written and oral business communication skills
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills, including experience with commercial transactions
  • Superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail, necessary to support and advise business units and ensure projects are completed in a timely and effective manner
  • Ability to make timely, nuanced recommendations for business decisions based on reasoned legal analysis and the strategic objectives of the organization
  • Commercial approach to advising business teams
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment

Desired Skills

  • Spanish language skills (business proficiency)
  • Knowledge and interest in the sport of soccer

Total Rewards

Starting Base Salary $130,000 - $160,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
