Overview

The Director will be responsible for implementing and managing the League’s Security Compliance Program related to the standards and policies in the MLS Security Manual.  The position will manage a third-party delivery, prioritize venues based on need, communicate audit results to the clubs/ venues, and administer the Corrective Action Plan process. 

 

The audits will be ongoing with clubs that fall below a specific standard being reaudited that same season.  The position will work closely with venue Security Directors and Club General Counsels.  The Director will work closely with the Senior Manager of Domestic to ensure information sharing and alignment.

 

The Director will provide an annual assessment of the Security Compliance Program to identify areas for improvement in policy and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage data obtained by the risk self-assessments and the venue assessments to prioritize a quality assurance audit program for MLS.
  • Oversee third party provider conducting the audits.
  • Collate results and conduct debriefs with the clubs/ venues on the results of the audit.
  • Work with the club/ venue to compile a Corrective Action Plan based on the deficiencies noted in the audit.
  • Provide summary updates to the department its stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective follow up.
  • Subject matter expert in key audit areas will include exterior review, hostile vehicle mitigation, search and screening, concourse elements, and access control.
  • Review available information and provide ongoing security recommendations related to venue security protocols.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Director, Safety & Security.
  • Travel to markets related to audit process and follow up.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management, Business, Analytics or a relevant related field
  • 5+ years of experience in Safety & Security (Sports)
  • Demonstrated understanding of a comprehensive safety and security model
  • Risk assessment methodology
  • Active and passive security measures
  • Patron screening technologies
  • Hostile vehicle mitigation strategies
  • Data capture, analysis, and dissemination
  • Leadership traits to include:
  • Developing personnel
  • Building and improving relationships
  • Accomplishing the current task within the organization’s goals and standards
  • High work quality and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong ethics and integrity
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Knowledge of sport event safety and security
  • Knowledge of MLS Security methodology
  • Knowledge of National Incident Management System (NIMS)

Total Rewards:

Starting Base Salary: $115,000 -$150,000.  MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
