Overview

In September 2021, Liga MX and Major Leagues Soccer (“MLS”) announced the expansion of Leagues Cup in 2023 to an annual 4-week tournament featuring all Liga MX and MLS clubs.  Leagues Cup is an official Concacaf competition, and the top three finishers receive spots in the Concacaf Champions League with the winner advancing directly to the round of 16.  Leagues Cup is the first and only officially sanctioned multi-country club competition in the world which represents an extraordinary opportunity for Liga MX and MLS to build one of the most unique and exciting club tournaments in the world within the Concacaf ecosystem, while accelerating the growth of soccer in the United States.

 

We’re looking for a Vice President to lead the brand strategy and marketing planning and operations for Leagues Cup to build the Leagues Cup brand, drive awareness, and create meaningful action and data capture.  This includes responsibility for Leagues Cup marketing mix, campaign performance, management of paid media (digital/social and traditional) promotional, media distribution, earned and placement (owned and operated assets, as well as partner assets).

 

The role ensures smart and timely campaign development and delivery across multiple brand touchpoints. The strategy will utilize the Tournament’s unique positioning and ensure it is communicated effectively to a variety of crucial audiences. The main goal is to excite and educate the market, drive data capture, sell tickets, and drive fans to the sport and competition.

 

Responsibilities

Leagues Cup Tournament

  • Be the brand champion and leader, ensuring all stakeholders understand what makes Leagues Cup so unique, differentiated, and exciting.
  • Oversee the coordination and leadership of the Tournament’s brand and integrated marketing campaign including all planning, creative development, communication, and channel distribution (paid, owned and other stakeholder).
  • Management of staff, providing leadership support across an integrated group, including access to: CRM, digital, and traditional media and creative services.
  • Work with all and build relationships with MLS and Liga MX clubs to organize and manage a unified message & marketing to the marketplace.
  • Management, planning and oversight of Leagues Cup media budget.
  • Act as the project lead for all related meetings, provide core project updates and track to senior management and event organizing committee.
  • Ensure alignment within MLS and Liga MX brand marketing and messaging, while ensuring connectivity with Concacaf and the North American club ecosystem.
  • To support MLS brand efforts with MLS in-house Brand + Marketing team.
  • Collaborate with sponsorship sales organization to create scalable platforms and build value for Leagues Cup.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to drive Leagues Cup integration within the ecosystem of Apple products and services.
  • Build brand culture, seek to celebrate, and place the brand in non-traditional outlets/channels, telling the story beyond the white lines.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree; MBA preferred
  • 12+ years of experience in brand and/or product management

 

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of the Spanish language (business proficiency)
  • Brand leadership and strategy
  • Creatively minded, ability to understand design world, and lead creative collaborations
  • Great storyteller, with proven ability to build and scale social audiences
  • Experience creating and executing successful marketing and promotions plans
  • Experience with lifestyle brands
  • High digital acumen including proficiency in data driven digital marketing with all major platforms (Meta, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Apple products and services, etc.)
  • Proven ability to maximize google search, SEO, and position MLS on the forefront of digital innovation (new digital platforms, methodology, technologies, etc.
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams and accomplish objectives through others
  • Collaborative and engaging disposition with the ability to remain positively focused when overcoming challenges

Desired Skills

  • Sports marketing experience
  • Knowledge of the sport of soccer and soccer ecosystem
  • Understanding of Mexican culture and soccer (fútbol)

 

 

 

Total Rewards

Starting Base Salary: $200,000 – $230,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
