This position will support across several departments to manage Major League Soccer and Soccer United Marketing’s domestic and international intellectual property portfolio.  The intellectual property portfolio includes trademarks and copyrights for MLS clubs and other MLS/SUM properties, including MLS NEXT Pro, MLS NEXT, MLS GO, and Leagues Cup. 

• Partner with business teams and MLS Clubs to review IP matters with respect to new initiatives
• Perform searches and clearances for new proposed MLS, MLS club marks, MLS NEXT Pro, MLS NEXT Pro clubs, and SUM property marks
• Submit filings for new marks and manage USPTO office action responses
• Make timely filings to ensure ongoing protection of existing marks, including collecting and submitting specimens of use
• Manage outside counsel, particularly with respect to international IP portfolio management and MLS patent filings
• Advise on IP protection strategy and prepare cease and desist letters, as necessary
• Work with federal and local law enforcement agencies on anti-counterfeiting initiatives, including customs recordations and filings
• Work cross-functionally to manage risks, while providing practical and creative legal guidance

• 3+ years of experience at a top tier or IP law firm and/or corporate legal department; in-house experience preferred
• Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor
• Admission to NY State Bar

Total Rewards

Hourly Rate: $60 - $70/hour.
