Overview

Major League Soccer (MLS) seeks innovative, talented and passionate students to contribute to the growth of Soccer in North America.

 

The Communications department is responsible for increasing the profile and enhancing the reputation of Major League Soccer and our Clubs throughout the world. In order to do this, the department works closely with domestic and international media to increase the relevance of MLS through storyline creation and pitching. In addition, Communications plays a key role in overall reputation management, serving as a resource to our clubs and providing media with informational resources.

 

Located at the League Office Headquarters in New York City, the Summer Intern Program is a 10-week program that runs from June 3rd-August 5th.  Interns will be a part of an inclusive culture that encourages teamwork and collaboration, values diversity and promotes creativity.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and create storylines to pitch to media members and secure high-quality placements that increase the relevance of MLS nationally and in our local markets.
  • Support communications around the FIFA Club World Cup by highlighting the growth of MLS with key journalists that are covering the tournament.
  • Assist in Communications planning for various events over the summer: MLS All-Star Game, Leagues Cup, CONCACAF Gold Cup, and more.
  • Understand and help lead sports information projects that are highlighting player and club success in the MLS regular season.
  • Support the Corporate Communications branch of the department to collaborate on partner announcements, signature events, and immersion opportunities.
  • Identify strategies to impact social-first media outlets through MLS NEXT Pro, MLS NEXT and young talent in MLS.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate rising senior
  • Recent college graduate
  • Currently enrolled in a post-graduate program

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Must commit to attend full 10-week program
  • Bilingual in Spanish or French a plus

TOTAL REWARDS

Major League Soccer offers an hourly salary of $20 based on a 40-hour work week.
