Overview

Major League Soccer is entering a defining era of growth, momentum, and global relevance. As we build toward 2026 and beyond, we are seeking a Senior Director of Brand Campaigns & Earned Media to lead the development and execution of high-impact brand campaign for 2026 and beyond that elevates the league’s visibility, cultural relevance, and emotional resonance with fans.

 

This is a pivotal leadership role for a strategic brand builder and marketing operator who thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands the power of storytelling, and knows how to move seamlessly from insight to execution across internal and external teams.  This position will have the opportunity to shape the next era of soccer in North America. As MLS accelerates toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup and a new generation of fans, their leadership will help define how the league is seen, felt, and loved.

Responsibilities

Brand & Campaign Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end development of Major League Soccer’s brand campaign for 2026 World cup year—from insight to execution—ensuring work is strategic, integrated, and resonates with culturally diverse fans across North America.
  • Drive breakthrough storytelling that reinforces MLS as high quality, welcoming, and electric entertainment sports brand.
  • Translate brand strategy into platform ideas and full-funnel campaigns that build equity, drive tune-in and subscriptions (e.g. MLS Season Pass), and shift fan perception.

Cross-Functional Integration

  • Collaborate closely with full enterprise (Media, Digital, Comms, Social, Consumer Products, Competition and Partnership) teams to ensure all brand efforts are fully aligned and amplify each other.
  • Serve as a key leader in bringing together league, club, and partner perspectives to ensure integrated marketing moments drive business results.
  • Work shoulder-to-shoulder with Comms and Content teams to drive earned storytelling and media amplification.

Agency & Creative Oversight

  • Lead agency teams (creative, strategy, PR, production) to deliver outstanding, insight-led creative across all touchpoints.
  • Oversee briefing, concept development, content production, and campaign delivery with speed, clarity, and excellence.
  • Ensure brand consistency and high creative standards across all initiatives.
  • Earned Media & Cultural Momentum
  • Shape and execute strategies that earn attention and drive conversation—through stunts, activations, influencers, and social-first storytelling.
  • Help make MLS unmissable during tentpole moments for 2026, including season launch, pre world cup, during world cup, post world cup, and Playoffs.
  • Build plans that harness fan passion, media interest, and cultural inflection points.

Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Lead a high-performing team with creativity, accountability, and cross-functional empathy.
  • Manage budgets, timelines, and metrics to ensure campaigns are on-time, on-budget, and delivering impact.
  • Serve as a senior leader in Marketing, helping shape the department’s culture, priorities, and strategic direction.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field required. MBA a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience required, with progressive experience in brand marketing.

Required Skills

  • Proven track record of building and executing integrated marketing campaigns that grow brand relevance and consumer connection.
  • Strong experience managing external agencies and internal creative teams across broadcast, digital, social, and experiential channels.
  • Exceptional cross-functional collaborator—able to build trust, alignment, and clarity across diverse teams.
  • Deep understanding of brand strategy, campaign architecture, and full-funnel execution.
  • Strong operator with the ability to move from strategy to execution in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
  • Experience managing large-scale budgets and optimizing marketing ROI.
  • Passion for sports, culture, and innovation; soccer knowledge a plus but not required.
  • High-level of commitment to a quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of the Spanish Language (business proficiency)
  • Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Total Rewards

Major League Soccer offers a competitive starting base salary of $145,000 - $185,000, based on individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs. As a result, employees are required to work from an MLS office at least four days a week. We understand the value of balance, so employees also have the flexibility of working remotely on Fridays, along with the option to take up to two additional remote flex days each month.
