Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director to drive the development and execution of transformative data strategies that enhance club operations and revenue drivers, including marketing, ticketing, sponsorship, food & beverage, MLS Season Pass subscriptions, and more. This role will guide clubs in adopting best practices, improving data maturity, and elevating their operational capabilities to execute multi-channel fan journeys and marketing campaigns. With deep expertise in CRM systems and the ability to lead the League’s Next-Gen Fan Growth and Engagement Initiative in the Club Performance Group, the Director will be instrumental in positioning Major League Soccer Club’s as leaders in fan engagement and monetization.

 

Responsibilities

Club Performance Enhancement

  • Provide expert guidance to clubs in improving data, CRM, fan journeys, and operational capabilities to create actionable insights based on the 2024 fan data maturity survey.
  • Develop tailored recommendations to enhance fan data management, marketing segmentation, and personalized engagement strategies.
  • Work with Clubs to implement data-first strategies to optimize customer engagement and satisfaction with Club and MLS.
  • Partner with Digital Marketing Club staff to share best practices on data-driven, segmented, dynamic campaigns delivered.
  • Conduct workshops and one-on-one consultations to elevate club knowledge and capabilities.
  • Have the ability to collaborate with third party technology and consultants to up-level Clubs.

 

CRM and Data Strategy Leadership

  • Provide Clubs with best practices to allow for implementation of Club CRM strategies aligned with League-wide goals for optimization, alignment and new areas of growth, focused fan engagement and revenue growth.
  • Support clubs in meeting and exceeding the League’s data and digital minimum standards.
  • Work with Club and League partners to develop data and analytic best practices to find opportunities for revenue optimization and new fan growth across marketing, ticketing, and sponsorship.
  • Assist Clubs with management of targeting strategies and eligibility triggers for dynamic content display, ensuring personalized and relevant marketing communications are activated through the right segmentation strategies.
  • Assist Clubs with analysis of the performance of digital marketing campaigns and develop comprehensive reports on results to inform future decisions.​
  • Assist clubs with CRM strategy, campaign calendar, deployment and optimization of owned channels, push, SMS and email, ensuring timely delivery of flawless campaigns. Support establishing the role of Clubs and MLS when moving fans through points of initial acquisition, engagement and conversion, with focus on activation.
  • Assist Clubs in championing their CRM strategy, continually seeking opportunities for optimization, alignment and new areas of growth, focused on fan consumption and revenue-driving activity. 
  • Assist clubs in best practices regarding targeting strategies and eligibility triggers for dynamic content display, ensuring personalized and relevant marketing communications are activated through the right segmentation strategies.                                          
  • Partner with Club Digital Marketing teams to create and implement data-driven, segmented, dynamic campaigns delivered to the right people at the right time, including successfully executing multi-channel fan journeys across addressable ecosystem.
  • Consider standing up CRM as a service at the league level, to support clubs through centralized support

 

Next-Gen Initiative Execution

  • Lead the execution of the League’s Next-Gen Fan Growth and Engagement Initiative, ensuring seamless integration between clubs and the League.
  • Work with our Technology group that is building robust customer fan profiles to develop best practices using the profiles to drive targeted marketing campaigns
  • Manage reporting dashboards, monitor trends and performance across owned channels, and proactively share actionable insights and implement optimizations based on campaign results.
  • In partnership with League collaborators, monitor and analyze the performance of Club marketing campaigns and CRM strategies to develop comprehensive reports on results to inform future decisions.

 

Partner Collaboration

  • Build strong relationships with club leadership to ensure alignment of data strategies and operational priorities.
  • Collaborate with League departments, including marketing, analytics, and technology, to deliver integrated solutions to Club fan data challenges.
  • Advocate for club needs and innovations within League strategy discussions.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, data analytics or related field; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred
  • 8+ years of experience required with 6+ years of hands-on experience in a CRM and data strategy or consulting role, with a focus on revenue generation and operational improvement.

 

Required Skills

  • Deep expertise in CRM systems, digital marketing tools, and data management.
  • Proven ability to program manage complex, cross-functional initiatives with measurable outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of sports or entertainment industries, with a preference for sport, MLS or league-level experience.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, capable of influencing senior team members.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize data into actionable strategies.
  • High-level of commitment to a quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in Salesforce, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

 

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of the sport of soccer

Major League Soccer offers a competitive starting base salary of $115,000 - $150,000, based on individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
