Overview

MLS/SUM is searching for a Senior Manager of Talent Development who will work closely with the Vice President of Talent Development to execute a talent strategy that enhances the skills, knowledge, and capabilities of MLS/SUM employees to drive business objectives. This role will partner with colleagues and stakeholders in the business to ensure we are adding value and driving competitive advantage across the organization and in the industry. They will own programmatic development and implementation for early-to mid-career level staff. 

Responsibilities

  • Create, reimagine, update, and facilitate employee development programs that mix different learning styles to build skills at all levels — with a focus on early- to mid-career staff.
  • Design and launch a new manager program — taking it from idea to full implementation.
  • Support the performance management process by offering tools and guidance for setting goals and completing mid-year and year-end reviews.
  • Use talent data to guide personalized development and career path discussions.
  • Partner with and manage external vendors to enhance professional development offerings, ensuring they align with MLS/SUM goals and aspirational culture.
  • Oversee and maintain the learning management system (LMS), tracking attendance, keeping content current, relevant, and aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Increase adoption of learning tools by promoting features, driving engagement, and highlighting resources.
  • Work with subject matter experts and department leaders to identify skill gaps, build curriculum, and expand the LMS as a go-to resource for professional growth.
  • Regularly review program effectiveness using feedback and performance data to make informed improvements.
  • Develop and facilitate customized team workshops aimed to increase team effectiveness and performance.
  • Support Vice President of Talent on other talent initiatives including but not limited to coaching programs, succession planning, and executive development.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage learning rosters by tracking participant enrollment, attendance, and progress for various learning programs and initiatives.
  • Prepare presentation and training documentation, ensuring all materials are accurate, engaging, and aligned with program objectives.
  • Coordinate onsite learning logistics, including venue selection, equipment setup, and ensuring all necessary resources are available for smooth execution of training sessions.
  • Assist with scheduling and communications, ensuring all stakeholders are informed of program details, dates, and expectations.
  • Provide general administrative support to the VP, Talent Development as needed, including data entry, report generation, and coordinating program-related communications.
  • Lead various special projects as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Human Development, or a related field is preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources, with a strong focus on developing, implementing, and delivering talent initiatives and learning programs that drive organizational growth and employee development.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate a culture of learning within teams and across the organization.
  • Relevant certifications in Talent Development, Learning and Development, or Project Management (e.g., Assessments, CPLP, SHRM-CP, PMP) are a plus.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively, 1:1 and in team and group settings.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Learning Management and Performance Management Systems.
  • Proven ability to deliver engaging and impactful initiatives and programs to diverse audiences, from small groups to large teams, ensuring the message is clear and relevant.
  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks, balancing short-term and long-term goals to meet deadlines and respond to evolving organizational needs.
  • Experience facilitating professional development training sessions.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous and team environments.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365.

Desired Skills

  • Creating career paths, process maps, and success profiles.
  • Experience using assessments (e.g. Hogan, Gallup, etc.) to incorporate into employee development

Major League Soccer offers a competitive starting base salary of $90,000 - $110,000 based on individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
