Overview

The Senior Coordinator, Competition will assist in administering tasks and implementing projects associated with the MLS Competition Department. This position will be integral to departmental objectives of improving the on-field product and advocating for the spirit, soul, and integrity of the game. The responsibilities of this role primarily include, but are not limited to, organizing, scheduling, tracking, processing, and reporting related to disciplinary administration, departmental programming, match analysis, preseason planning, and Club communications, which help the department achieve its objectives. Secondary responsibilities include supporting the development and management of the MLS regular season and playoff schedules, collaborating with clubs, venues, and media partners, operating scheduling software, and modeling future competition formats and frameworks. The individual selected must use effective time management, be highly organized, and employ problem-solving skills to improve the standard of MLS.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support and assist disciplinary process and procedures, including on-field discipline and the MLS Disciplinary Committee
  • Create and support disciplinary administration and all other functions for MLS Regular Season and Playoffs.
  • Support and participate in matchday operations processes, including periodic assignments on matchdays.
  • Responsible for managing departmental and related meetings and scheduling, including attendance, recording notes, and utilizing technology.
  • Assist in updating and editing data entry for all technology platforms.
  • Assist with research, statistical analysis, and the drafting of reports and PowerPoint presentations in competition-related areas.
  • Track PRO/Competition grades, run video platforms, and take notes during Referee Performance Evaluation meetings.
  • Support preseason administration, such as through the coordination of Club meeting schedules, delivering preseason meetings, among other responsibilities.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Supporting Competition Planning & Scheduling with developing and managing the league's annual regular season and playoff schedules
  • Liaise with clubs/venues and media partners throughout the scheduling process.
  • Operate scheduling software program(s)
  • Model future competition formats and schedule frameworks.
  • Contribute to policy development and production of the Competition Manual
  • Work to improve systems and reduce inefficiencies by collaborating with various stakeholders on innovative solutions (e.g., discipline, MLS Disciplinary Committee)
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3+ years of experience

 

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of the sport of soccer
  • Superior organization, project management skills, and attention to detail
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally, and through presentations.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Product Suites, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

 

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of the Spanish Language (business proficiency)

Major League Soccer offers a competitive starting base salary of $65,500 - $70,000, based on individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
